New Samurai!!

Hello!

This is a re-write of an earlier post, now with more details and better pictures.

MRF is a company here in Japan that wants to create a fast past samurai skirmish game in 32mm.

The models are based off of designs from Suwahara Hiroyuki 諏訪原 寛幸 (Japanese name order). He is a Japanese illustrator who has worked on Koei Video games like Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors,  Kessen etc.  Suwahara Hiroyuki's homepage (Japanese)
Koei gameography (English)

The actual sculpting and production is being done by Andrea Miniatures.

The game system is currently being designed and I couldn't get any details to share but I can say that the Japanese have their own way of romanticizing samurai history which has constantly been a huge hit in the west. I am personally hoping for a 32mm scale version of the Samurai Warriors video game haha, but we'll have to wait and see :-)

I took some of the photos MRF had posted to Cool Mini or Not and will re-post them here:

  4. Thank you all for your comments!

For the record though I am not the one who painted these... I wish!!

I was so surpised to get such a response comeing from TMP, thanks again for taking a look.

Sorry I don't have much else to say for now!

I can answer Håkan Henriksson question however: Mr Hobby is a brand you will see quite a bit in Japan. I don't personally use them, but I know they are almost always sold in plastic model shops and along side gundam models. I hope that helps! Their paint line is called Mr. Color
you can see more (in japanese thought..) here:

  5. Update⚠
These figures were based off of drawings by the Japanese artist Suwahara Hiroyuki. The company that is planning the game is a Japanese company called MRF but they asked Andrea to do the sculpting. These are just the prototypes.

The game rules are still being written right now.

That is the word my friends. I will personally be keeping in touch with this project as it unfolds and hopefully we'll all be able to see a samurai mini's game finally designed by Japanese!

  6. Ah, what a treat! Thanks a bunch for the info and the reply. I've noticed both Tamiya and Mr Color at the local hobby store, but set in my ways as I am, I continue to order Vallejo from Europe, paying the shipment. Being an on and off painter, wargamer and kendooka (when I'm not injured!) it will be really interesting to see a Japanese wargame coming to life!/H
